Newborn Session Preparation | Sevierville Photographer | Willow + Rove

Before the session:

Newborn sessions need to be scheduled before your baby is 10 days old to get the best and squishiest poses. Your baby is still extremely flexible during this time and it makes posing that much easier. Beyond 10 days, your baby becomes too alert and will not sleep through the session, which is our goal.

We have an abundance of props and outfits in studio for your baby’s session, however, if you want to bring outfits or props from home, please feel free to do so!

If you have already set a schedule for your baby, schedule your session during nap time. Again, our goal is to keep the baby asleep for the session. A pro tip that we like to tell parents is to try to keep your baby awake for as long as you can (1-2 hours) before the session so that they will go right back to sleep when you arrive at the studio.

Dress your baby in loose clothing, and a loose diaper so that your baby will not have marks on his/her skin from tight clothing.

During the session:

It will be very very warm in the studio to keep baby comfortable, so please dress in layers. You may also step out of the studio to cool off if you need to do so.

If you have other children or family members joining you, it is very important to keep them under control and quiet.

Things to bring:

  1. Pacifier if your baby takes one.
  2. Bottle if your baby is bottle fed. (We have a microwave in the studio)

Parent Preparation:

If you are going to be in photos with baby, please remember to follow the following tips:

  1. Avoid wearing patterns.
  2. Dress in bright neutral colors. (Think whites, greys, tans)
  3. Dress in layers. (Only because you will get hot)
